Somebody gets on the roof

Most roofing problems announce themselves somewhere other than the roof. A stain spreading across a bedroom ceiling. Grit from the shingles collecting in the gutters. A few tabs in the yard after a storm. From the ground you cannot tell whether that is a fifty dollar problem or a whole new roof.

So we go up and look. Flashing, valleys, the ridge, the field of the roof, the gutter line, and the attic underneath it. Then you get told what is actually happening, in plain language, including when the answer is that your roof is fine and you should call back in five years.

Worth booking one if

• There is a stain on a ceiling or a wall that you cannot explain
• You have found shingles or shingle grit in the yard or the gutters
• A storm came through and you want to know whether it did anything
• The roof came with the house and nobody has ever told you how old it is
• You are buying or selling and want to know what you are signing up for
